Ustadh Hamza Karamali is a distinguished Islamic educator and thinker, specialising in strengthening Muslim belief through rational, classical, and evidence-based approaches to faith. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, after which he dedicated himself to traditional Islamic scholarship – studying full-time with renowned scholars in Kuwait, the UAE, and Jordan, and earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Islamic Law and Legal Theory from Jamia Nizamiyya in Hyderabad, India.
Ustadh Hamza is best known for his ability to bridge classical Islamic thought with contemporary intellectual challenges. His “Why Islam is True” initiative – including video series, courses, and lectures – empowers Muslims to understand deeply why they believe, not just what they believe, by drawing on rational arguments embedded in the Qur’an and the rich legacy of Islamic scholarship.
His work focuses on:
-
Protecting and strengthening Muslim faith in modern contexts
-
Responding thoughtfully to atheist and secular critiques
-
Supporting parents, teachers, and communities in nurturing confident Islamic identities
-
Reviving the tradition of logical, rational Islamic discourse for contemporary audiences
Ustadh Hamza has taught across respected online platforms and institutions, including SunniPath, Qibla, Qasid Institute, and Kalam Research & Media, where he integrated analytic philosophy and science with traditional theology. He is also the founder of Basira Education, a pioneering endeavour to develop seminary-level curricula that harmonise traditional Islamic sciences with modern intellectual challenges.
At Al Balagh Academy, Ustadh Hamza brings his depth of scholarship, clarity of thought, and passion for critical engagement – enriching courses and inspiring students to understand Islam with both reason and conviction.
