Dr. Ziaullah Rahmani is Regional Advisor for Islamic Law & Jurisprudence at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) based in Pakistan. He also supports ICRC delegations in their work on Islam and International Humanitarian Law (IHL), in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Hailing from (Swat KPK) Dr Rahmani, obtained his LLB, LLM and PhD (Shariah) from International Islamic University Islamabad(IIUI). His PhD research was on the practice and theory of the Ombudsman where he carried out a comparative study of Islamic & Western Laws. The work has been published in Germany.

He began his career as Research Associate, at the Islamic Research Institute IIUI in 1997 and translated a classical text of Islamic Jurisprudence; Usool al Sarakhsi (first volume) into Urdu as his assignment. In 2004 he shifted to Faculty of Shariah & Law and started teaching courses of Islamic Law and jurisprudence there. In 2010, while he worked as Asstt Professor at the IIUI, he took leave and joined ICRC.

He has published several research articles mainly on administrative & constitutional laws of Islam, Islamic Perspective on Humanitarian Law and Humanitarian issues. He has attended a number of national and international conferences and workshops on law and humanitarian action.

During his tenure in ICRC he has obtained Masters in Advanced Studies (MAS) in Humanitarian Leadership from the University of Luzern Switzerland and certificates in Intensive Humanitarian Response from Harvard University USA and RedR UK. He has visited 20 countries around the the world.
