Khadim of the Qur’an | Teacher of Qirā’āt and Tajwīd | Dentist (Orthodontics & Cosmetic Dentistry)
Yusuf Haffejee is a dedicated khādim of the Qur’an (خادم القرآن) whose lifelong journey in the sacred sciences began under the guidance of his late father, Ḥāfiẓ Mohammed (حافظ محمد), with whom he completed the memorisation (ḥifẓ – حفظ) of the Qur’an in South Africa. His pursuit of Qur’anic knowledge continued with advanced studies in Tajwīd (تجويد), culminating in the attainment of ijāzah (إجازة) in all ten canonical modes of Qirā’āt (قراءات) — both ʿAsharah Ṣughrā (عشرة صغرى) and ʿAsharah Kubrā (عشرة كبرى). Through this rigorous training, he became part of the unbroken chain of transmission that preserves the precise recitation of the Qur’an as it was revealed.
In addition to his Qur’anic scholarship, Yusuf is a practising dentist with a special interest in orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry. Balancing his professional career with his scholarly calling, he is deeply passionate about the recitation and teaching of the Qur’an with proper Tajwīd, striving to uphold and transmit the noble oral tradition (al-silsilah al-mashāfahiyyah – السلسلة المشافهية) to future generations. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to both the pursuit of excellence in his profession and the service of the Qur’an as a sacred trust.
