Assoc Prof Dr Mastura Badzis, an education expert with 30 years’ experience, holds a bachelor’s degree from University Muhammad V, Rabat, Morocco, and a doctoral degree (Doctorate in Education (Ed. D)) in Child Development and Education from the Institute of Education, University of Warwick, United Kingdom. Before joining IIUM and furthering her study there at Master level, she was a school teacher for 3 and a half years.  Currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Educational Psychology and Counselling, Kulliyyah of Education, IIUM.

As an academician at a higher learning institution, Dr Mastura is quite versatile as her instructional competence extends across a diverse range of educational courses, spanning both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has proven her teaching proficiency through various courses such as Educational Psychology, Child Psychology, Islamic Psychology, Human Development, Teaching and Learning for Young Children, Moral Development from Psychological Perspectives, Learning and Special Needs, Theories of Personality and Personality Disorder, Research Methodology, and Qualitative Research Methods.

Dr Mastura Badzis has experience previously served as Deputy Dean Student Affairs, Principal of Students’ Residential College and Deputy Dean Postgraduate and Responsible Research, Kulliyyah of Education, IIUM. Mastura can speak and write Arabic language fluently besides English and her mother tongue (Malay). She has directed the National Child Development Research Centre, been a Visiting Associate Professor at Department of Early Education, Faculty of Education, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman (2020) and a Visiting Foreign Scholar at Graduate School of Education, The University of Tokyo, Japan (2022).

Dr Mastura Badzis is also a sought-after keynote speaker for various seminars and conferences at National and International level; and has been referred by various public and private higher institutions in Malaysia as a subject matter expert as well as an external advisor/assessor for their offered program in her area of specialization. She is also having an active appearance in numerous Malaysian Radio and TV programs. Her thoughts and ideas on child development, child psychology and education discourse were also published in Malaysian daily newspapers in which she was a guest columnist for Berita Harian from 2012 to 2017.

In addition to her academic work, Dr Mastura Badzis is also contributing her services not only to government agencies and corporate sectors but also to non-government organizations and professional bodies at national and international level. She was given a trust to hold important positions and execute insightful task such as Vice President of Muslim Malayisan Movement (ABIM); Chairman, Quality Assurance Committee, Early Childhood Care and Education (PERMATA) Division, Ministry of Education; Advisor, Love & Laugh International Sdn Bhd. Vice President, International Networking for Child Development and Protection (INCDP), Resource Person, International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT); Chairman, Medical Advisory Group, Mama Net apps and Board of Director, IIUM Educare Sdn. Bhd.

Alongside all her contributions and achievements, Dr Mastura Badzis has proven her excellency in coaching and mentoring postgraduate students as 21 PhDs and 8 Masters’ students have been successfully graduated under her scholarly guidance as the main supervisor.
